29 Dec 07THE LHFA CROWNS A NEW CHAMPION!  CONGRATULATIONS TO THE ERIC “NORM” BRIGHTBILL AND THE DETROIT WIZARDS, WHO WIN THE 2008 LHFA CHAMPIONSHIP WITH A 35-16 VICTORY OVER THE OAKLAND ROAD WARRIORS.
--- Game MVP:   Detroit QB Peyton Manning, who completed 20-29 for 233 yards and 3 TDs.  Contrary to popular opinion, it now appears that Detroit got the best end of that 3-way trade.
--- Turning Point:  At the start of the game Manning led the Wizards down the field for a TD; then on the ensuing KO Oakland KR Terence Wilkens fumbles the ball right back to Detroit .  The Wizards would turn that into 3 point, for an early 10-0 lead before the Road Warriors offense even ran a play.   Detroit would later add a safety to end the 1st quarter, essentially causing Oakland ’s plodding offense to work against them.  A special note to Detroit ’s underrated but highly effective defense, which held Oakland to under 250 yards.

21 Dec 07 – The BIG GAME IS SET!  Sub-Shop Classic XI will see the Detroit Wizards face off against…the Oakland Road Warriors!  Oakland advances with a hard-fought 20-16 victory over the San Diego Chargers.  This is Oakland coach Chad Cerrone’s first trip to the title game, and the 2nd for Eric “Norm” Brightbill.
--- Game MVP:  Even though Oakland K Jeff Wilkins hit two 50 yard field goals, the MVP has to be given to Oakland's Defense. They held the mighty San Diego offense to 96 rushing yards, 182 passing yards, had 4 sacks, 1 INT, and held SD to 1-16 on third down conversions.
--- Turning Point:  This was a very intense game. Both teams came prepared to play and it showed. In the fourth quarter, Oakland scored with a Bulger to Holt 8 yd TD to go up 17-16. On SD’s 1st play of their next possession, McNabb dropped back to pass and was picked off by the late Shaun Taylor.  This led to one of two Jeff Wilkins 50 yard field goals to go up 20-16.

--- Game MVP: Donovan McNabb completed 22 of 34 for 196 yards and 2 TDs.

--- Turning Point:  At 8:20, Coach Cattie emailed the Minnesota Front Office to inform them that the Stranglers were stuck in traffic and would be a little late. Coach Simon, citing his teams recent performance, told the Stranglers that the front office was in shambles since the GM was chasing the Coach with a "boogie woogie" stick yelling "Whoa...mercy daddy...my boy will be coaching this team next year after I boogie woogie all over you" Needless to say the league offices immediately dispatched Coach HAL to coach a confused Road Warrior team.

--- Game MVP:  Boston QB Carson Palmer who went 20 of 30 for 296 yards and 2 TDs.
--- Turning Point:  While watching The Office, LA took a brief 10-3 lead when Al Wilson picked off a palmer pass and ran it in for a touchdown.  Coach Cattie then pictured the von Trapp Family from the Sound of Music and remembered he hadn’t beat Coach Milito in about 4 years.  31 unanswered points, seven sacks, and an episode of Scrubs later the streak was over.

Near the end of the first half gets two quick turnovers but could only manage two field goals to get within 10-6 at half. In the second half, Oakland managed to get two more field goals to seal the win. Oakland's Defense held Chicago to only 145 yards and McNair to only 9 completions for 77yds, 3 sacks and 1 INT. When asked about McNair's play, Coach Simon replied "McNair played like an asshole!"

--- Turning Point:  In the 4th quarter with Boston up by a touchdown, Tampa was driving down the field, when TB QB Huard threw an interception to Lt Governor London Flecter-Katharine-Baker-Knowle. Boston limped into FG range and watched Vinatieri kick a 44 yard FG to ice the game in all honesty they shouldn't have won but a holding call negated the kick. The re-kick, a 49 yarder, was shanked breathing new life into Tampa. With 1:39 left in the game and 1 timeout left, Huard started marching down the field until he threw a pick to Boston FS Whitner ending the game.

The Denver Highlanders defeated the Los Angeles Dons 43-3.
--- Game MVP:  The Denver Defense which held the Dons to less than 140 yards of total O, had 7 sacks and 2 Interceptions.
--- Turning Point:  After the Dons kicked a 42 yard FG with 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, they never found their groove again as the Highlanders Defense kept stopping the Dons.

04 Nov 07 - The Detroit Wizards win their third straight with a 38-24 win in Minnesota.
--- Game MVP:  Detroit QB Peyton Manning who went 25 of 33 for 287 yards and 5 TDs

--- Turning Point:  After an 80 yard Feely to Boldin TD made the score 17-7, the Chargers and Donovan McNabb, who after starting 1-5 ended up 13-19 for 179 yards and 3 TDs, got the ball on their own 41 with 4:04 left in the first half after a good return by Justin Miller (4 returns, 152 yards, 1 TD).  McNabb marched the Bolts down the field and connected with TE Jason Witten for the TD with :08 remaining in the half to give the Chargers a 21-point lead.  Jacksonville made it close, scoring a TD to make it 24-34 with 1:44 remaining.  After failing to recover the onside kick, Kyle Boller went out in the victory formation, but Jacksonville had other ideas, calling a timeout after the kneel down.  Boller promptly responded by hitting Braylon Edwards for a 41 yard TD.  Though Jacksonville went on to score another TD, this sealed the game for the Chargers and moved them to 8-2.

30 Oct 07 - The Dons hold off a late Blitzkrieg charge to improve to 3-5 and snap a 5 game losing streak, by beating Pittsburgh 21-16.
--- Game MVP:  In what may be their swan songs in LA, LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for 146yds and 2 TDs (eclipsing the 1000yd mark for the season), while Tom Brady was 20 for 26 for 296yds and 1 TD.
--- Turning Point:  With LA trailing 16-14 and the ball on their own 20, the Dons put together an 18-play, 80yd drive that took 11:00min off of the clock and culminated with Tomlinson taking it in from 7yds out.  LA then had to weather a Pitt drive that would see them fall short at the Dons 1yd line with no time left on the clock.  For their efforts, Tomlinson and Brady were applauded by the Dons faithful.

29 Oct 07 - A 48-yard Matt Stover field goal with 2 seconds left in the game gets the Chargers out of Boston with a 19-16 win.
--- Game MVP:  A baffled Coach Kehm was asked about who he thought was the game MVP in his press conference.  “I guess it has to be Stover since the rest of the team sucked.”  Stover kicked 4 FGs in the Bolts win.
--- Turning Point:  Late in the 4th quarter, Boston kicker Adam Vinatieri lined up for a 43-yard field goal that would have given the Stranglers a 19-13 lead, but San Diego linebacker Al Wilson leapt high over the line and knocked it down.  Horrible Charger QB Donovan McNabb (25 of 47, 275 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) took the team on a short drive that ended in a Stover FG to tie the game.  After the putrid Charger defense (482 total yards given up) showed up for once and held Boston to a three-and out, McNabb came back out and after taking a potentially devastating sack, he managed to hit Marvin Harrison for a 33-yard gain with :35 left on the clock to set up the game-winning score.
--- Game Notes:  San Diego’s Coach Kehm was quoted as saying that his team “had no business winning this game.”  Aside from the yardage given up by the usually stingy defense, the offense only managed to rush for 44 yards.  Also, when was the last time Adam Vinatieri missed a field goal and had one blocked in the same game?  Four Boston turnovers kept this game close.

26 Oct 07 - The Detroit Wizards send the Oakland Road Warriors to their second straight loss with a 41-7 win.

--- Game MVP:  Denver WR Mike Furrey who had 11 receptions for 157 yards (14.3 average) and 4 TDs.
--- Turning Point:  The Highlanders drove down the field on their opening possession for a TD.  St. Louis started to drive down the field giving the impression that this would be another "Chuck-n-Duck" match.  However, the Lindyhopper drive stalled on the Denver 17 yard line when St. Louis kicker Jeff Reed shanked a 33 yard field goal.  Coach Liddick was so charged up that he told his team to "Bring the Rain" and Denver didn't have a single possession that they didn't score.
--- Game Note:  This is Denver's 2nd game of the season where they had 500+ yards of total offense and 6th game this season where they held their opponent to under 200 yards of total offense.

--- Game MVP:  Jaguars QB Jake Delhomme, who completed 22 of 31 passes for 292 yards and 2 TDs (one pick).
--- Turning Point:  Late in the 1st half, Minnesota trailed 10-6.  Facing a 3rd and 10, the Crew simply wished to end the half and get ready for the 2nd half, so they called a conservative draw to Maurice Jones-Drew.  Unfortunately, Jones-Drew fumbled, and Jacksonville recovered in Minnesota territory.  The Giant Jaguars  were able to add a TD at the end of the half, and the resulting two-score differential was one that Minnesota was never able to overcome.

05 Oct 07 – The Detroit Wizards hand the Denver Highlanders their first loss of the year in an offense-dominated game, 30-24.

--- Game MVP:  Minnesota QB Drew Brees, completing 26 of 40 passes for 318 yards and 3 scores.
--- Turning Point:  In a battle of wits, Coach Simon proved that he has more than a computer.  Well, at least a computer coached team organized by GM Knisely.  After the game, Coach Simon wanted to only focus on the upcoming game against Coach Buxom.  "I'M A MAN!!  I'M 40!!!" Is what coach Simon was quoted as saying.  When pointed out that he was only 25, Coach Simon threw the podium across the room and walked off stage.  Also, Minnesota kicked a late FG to win.

24 Sept 07 – The Chicago Warlords hand Boston their 1st loss of 2007, outscoring the Stranglers 23-10.
--- Game MVP:  The Warlords' OL, who paved the way for 224 yards rushing on 44 attempts.
--- Turning Point:  With Chicago leading 16-10 after a Chicago FG, Chicago was able to contain Boston returner extraordinaire Devon Hester on the ensuing return, pinning him inside the 20.  Following a false start penalty, Chicago forced a 3 and out, and took over at midfield.  The Warlords scored 5 plays later to go up 23-10.

24 Sept 07 – The Tampa Bay Captains even up the win and loss column by pitching a 17-0 shutout against the computer guided Pittsburgh Blitzkrieg. The win moves the Captains a half-game ahead of the Los Angeles Dons for second place in the Lombardi Division.
--- Game MVP:  Captains’ RB Frank Gore, who had 26 carries for 206 yards.
--- Turning Point:  Tampa Bay controlled the tempo throughout the contest. The game was put away when the Captain's Laurence Maroney scored from 1 yard out with 7:42 to go. The TD run capped a 16 play 10:01 drive that covered 90 yards.

22 Sept 07 - The Detroit Wizards snap a 3 game losing streak defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars 23-10 at home.
--- Game MVP:  Detriot CB Drayton Florence- 2 key INTs on back to back Jacksonville drives in the 3rd Quarter.
--- Turning Point:  At the start of the 2nd half Jacksonville Onside kicks and makes the recovery. Then the Wizards hold Jaguar-giants to 3 plays and punt. On the punt return Detroit's Roscoe Parrish returns the ball 81 yards to the 10 yard line setting up an easy go ahead score.
--- Special note:  Jacksonville's DE Tamba Hali who had an outstanding game. 9 tackles 2 sacks and 1 int. He almost single handedly held Detroit's offense down in the 1st half.

--- Game MVP:  Marc Bulger (QB-Oak) 20-26 for 239 yards and 2TD (130.1 rating).
--- Turning Point:  With 3:40 left in the 1st quarter, and the score 0-0, LA punted from its own 23 yard line. Oakland's DE Trent Cole blocked the punt and PR Alvin Pearman scooped it up for a TD. This deflated the LA Dons and they could not recover.
--- As Jake Delhomme and David Carr made their way toward the Dons locker room after their third straight loss, GM Milito met them outside the door of their locker room with their bags and plane tickets in hand.....destination: Jacksonville.  When they looked at their plane tickets, they noticed that they were sitting in seats A and C......Carr then responded, "I hope no one sits in the middle seat".  Unfortunately, Tony Gonzalez came hobbling out of the trainer’s room along with his bag and said...."No, I am in the middle seat."  All three are being sent to Jacksonville for QB Tom Brady and TE Ben Watson.

Week 4

17 Sept 07 – The Minnesota Wrecking Crew live up to their nickname and also earn their first win of the season by defeating the Los Angeles Dons 13-10.  The Crew also knocked 4 Dons out of the game, and sent LA DE Michael Strahan to the hospital.
--- Game MVP:  Minnesota LB Will Witherspoon, who had 8 tackles, 2 hurries, a sack and a stuff.
--- Turning Point:  At the end of the half, Minnesota lead 7-0.  Brees dropped back and heaved the ball down the field, which was picked off by Dons’ CB David Macklin.  Macklin was promptly tackled at the LA 25, but oddly enough the hometown scoreboard operator put a TD on the board.  The Dons quickly lined up and kicked the extra point.  Minnesota HC Mike Simon vehemently protested, but was told by the officials that since he did not challenge the play it could not be reviewed.  “Review what???!!” Simon cried, “the scoreboard operator??!!”  Simon then immediately phones the Crew GM, who also happens to be the League Commissioner.  The LC informed him that, instead of nixing the results, that he should still go out and whoop the Dons, using the Ghostbusters line:  “You have the tools…you have the talent!”

After the game, Coach Milito promptly walked across the field and punched Coach Mike Simon in the mouth.  An on the field brawl ensued............the reason for the brawl was due to 4 Dons players being injured during the game (Michael Strahan- 6, Tony Gonzalez- 1, Dallas Clark- 1, and Mike Wahle- 1).  After the dust settled, Coach Milito headed to his office and placed a call to Daniel Graham and told him to get off of his couch and meet the Dons in Oakland for next week's game.  That being said, Michael Strahan has been placed on IR.

17 Sept 07 – The San Diego Chargers advance to their first 4-0 start in LHFA history by manhandling the hapless Pittsburgh Blitzkrieg, 20-3.

--- Turning Point: Pittsburgh drove off the opening kickoff to the San Diego 3, when a scrambling Phillip Rivers fumbled the ball over to the Chargers.  The Chargers did not score on the ensuing drive, but the Blitzkrieg turned the ball over on the following two drives as well, resulting in 10 San Diego points.

16 Sept 07 - The Chicago Warlords survive another encounter with the Jacksonville Giant Jaguars, who always give the Warlords a tough outing.  Chicago pulls out a 17-7 victory.

--- Turning Point:  With 10:47 remaining in the game and protecting a 10-7 lead, Chicago forced a Jax punt and took over starting at their own 20.  With a 35-yard gain on a reverse by Sanatan Moss included in the mix, Chicago drove 80 yards in 5 plays, culminating with a 4-yd scoring run by Marion Barber III.

The Boston Stranglers double up the Detroit Wizards 34-17, sending the Wizards to their third straight loss while maintaining their perfect record this season.

--- Turning Point:  With Oakland leading 20-14 late in the 4th, St. Louis was driving. On 2nd and 10, with 1:27 left, and the ball on Oakland's 41 yard line, St. Louis QB Chad Pennington dropped back to pass and found Sean Taylor, too bad he plays for Oakland. Taylor's INT sealed the win for Oakland.

Week 3

10 Sept 07 - Chicago has never been a safe haven for the gangster underworld.  The Chicago Warlords assassinate the Los Angeles Dons 40-21.
--- Game MVP:  Chicago QB Steve McNair, who completed 16 of 24 passes for 299 yards and 3 TDs.
--- Turning Point:  After a tight first half, Chicago lead 13-7.  On the first play of the 2nd half, McNair hit a streaking Glenn down the right sideline en route to an 81-yd TD.  Even though Los Angeles would answer with a big scoring play moments later, this was the beginning of a 27-point explosion by the Warlords in the 2nd half that the Dons could not contain.

--- Game MVP:  Boston QB Carson Palmer - who went 23 of 30 for 269 yards and 2 TDs.
--- Turning Point:  Early in the 2nd quarter Pittsburgh jumped out to a 17-3 lead while Coach Cattie was too busy watching Big Brother 8.  Luckily for Coach Cattie he read the spoilers on Morty' TV Blog, and upon realizing he was losing, he thought it in his best interest to coach the rest of the game.

The Denver Highlanders defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 31-17 in Jacksonville.
--- Game MVP:  The Denver Defense.  The Highlanders Defense had 6 sacks (2 by Jason Taylor), 6 forced fumbles, a blocked punt returned for a TD and a 36 yard INT return for a TD by DE Jason Taylor.
--- Turning Point:  With 4:38 left in the 2nd quarter, the Highlanders D blocked a Jacksonville Punt and Derrick Brooks returned it 39 yards for a TD to make the score 21-0.  That was the game winning score.

08 Sept 07 - Computer?  Hello, computer?  Deep Blue has a new champion, as the St. Louis Lindyhoppers (or is it Lindy Hoppers?  Is this the CFL?) defeat the Detroit Wizards 23-21.
--- Game MVP:  St. Louis OLB DeMarcus Ware, who returned a Peyton Manning INT 27 yards for a TD.
--- Turning Point:  With St. Louis leading 10-7 late in the 2nd, Ware stepped in front of an errant Manning throw and returned it 28 yards for the TD, giving them a 17-7 lead.  It seemed to set the tone for the entire afternoon for Manning, who was making his first start since being sent to Autoland.

The San Diego Chargers stake an early season claim to the Lombardi Division by defeating the previously unbeaten Oakland Road Warriors 30-10.
--- Game MVP:  Before being injured, QB Donovan McNabb completed 14 of 19 for 254 yards and 2 TDs (150.7 rating).
--- Turning Point:  With 6:!8 remaining in the first half and the score 17-3, Oakland lined up to go for a 4th and 5 on the San Diego 43.  While trying to complete a short crossing pattern, Oakland QB Marc Bulger was blindsided by DL Trevor Pryce.  The Chargers would add a field goal before halftime, and on the opening kick of the second half, newly-acquired return man Justin Miller took it 103 yards for the TD and an insurmountable 27-3 lead.

Week 2

07 Sept 07 - The Boston Stranglers send the Wrecking Crew to their second straight loss with a 30-22 win in Minnesota.
--- Game MVP:  Richard Seymour 5 tackles 2 sacks 1 stuff and 1 forced fumble.
--- Turning Point:  At the start of the 4th quarter, Boston takes a 30-7 lead only to watch Minnesota come back with a 93 yard kickoff return TD by Jones-Drew, and a Rudi "I will now be benched in the 4th Quarter" Johnson fumble converted on the ensuing drive for a TD and a 2pt conversion to get the game to 30-22.  Instead of Stick-um, Rudi grabbed WD-40 to fumble for the 3rd time in the 4th quarter.  Minnesota drove down to Boston's 28 yard line where Game MVP Richard Seymour nails Drew Brees causing a fumble to seal the win for Boston.

03 Sept 07 - On a Labor Day LHFA Special, the Los Angeles take home the Bowl of Mac&Cheese with a 24-14 win over Tampa Bay.

--- Turning Point:  With the score 14-7 at the half, LA received the 2nd half kickoff and drove 50yds on 10 plays taking up 7min and 20sec on the clock.  Unfortunately, LA had to settle for a 34yd Jon Kasey FG to enlarge the lead to 17-7.  On Tampa Bay's ensuing drive, LA's defense held TB to a 3 and out, forcing TB to punt.  The next play would be our call of the game: "Split backs, Tomlinson to the left, strong to the right of Delhomme.  Here's the snap, Delhomme pitches left to Tomlinson.  Tomlinson across the 25, 30.....35....40...45...midfield....Tomlinson cuts back.....at the 40....he's gonna go.....25...20...15...10....5.....TD LaDainian Tomlinson......a 78yd pitch taken to the house."  Los Angeles' defense would then go on to hold the TB offense, letting up a late TD to make the final score 24-14.

Oakland's Defense stood strong and stopped Jax. With 2:08 remaining in the game, Jackson lead Oakland into field goal position for Wilkins game winning 39 yarder.

In St. Louis, Matt Stover defeats Jeff Reed 9-3.
--- Game MVP:  San Diego’s three kickers.  While Stover did all of the scoring, punter Hunter Smith and kickoff specialist Paul Ernster (4 kickoffs, 4 touchbacks) put St. Louis in poor field position for most of the game.
--- Turning Point:  With 8:29 left in the game, St. Louis lined up for a 23-yard field goal that would have trimmed the San Diego lead to 3.  The chip-shot was good, but a penalty nullified the score.  Backed up 10 yards, Reed missed.

---  Turning Point:  Midway through the 2nd quarter, Jax was trailing 14-3.  Former Boston QB Tom Brady leads Jax to his usual 2 yards in 3 plays forcing Jax to punt to Mr. Hester. Hester kindly wraps the ball and hands it to Bridget Moynahan and new born Jet Brady 78 yards later.

27 Aug 07 - The San Diego Chargers win their 2007 Home Opener with a tough 35-24 win over the Tampa Bay Captains.
---  Game MVP:  SD QB Donovan McNabb started off 8 for 8 and ended up an efficient 11 for 15 for 180 yards, 2 TDs, and a passer rating of 125.0.  He was so good, he even managed to pick up a first down on a kneel-down in the game’s closing moments.  Honorable mentions go to RB Larry Johnson who had 35 carries for 110 yards and 2 TDs, and the entire Charger defense for holding the high-powered Captains’ offense in check (Frank Gore-13 carries, 48 yards, Peyton Manning 12 of 23 for 99 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs).
---  Turning Point:  After a Tampa Bay field goal cut the Charger lead to 21-10 with 8:49 left in the 1st half, Donovan McNabb led the San Diego offense on an 11-play 80-yard drive.  McNabb completed all 4 of his passes for 63 yards and the drive was capped off by a 4 yard run by LJ.  Defense and special teams dominated the second half as the two teams traded interception returns for touchdowns.  Pacman Jones returned a punt 72 yards for a touchdown late in the 4th quarter, but it was too little too late for the RumRunners.

---  Turning Point:  After a back and forth battle, Minn was leading 19-17 with 6:13 left in the game. Oakland had a 4th and 1 on Minn 29 yard line. Coach Cerrone was deciding between a 46 yard field goal and leaving Minn with 6:00 or to go for it and put the nail in the coffin. Coach Cerrone went for it and Bulger hit Jackson on a 12 yard flat which led to a Bulger/Holt 3 yard TD to seal the win.

Los Angeles opens the 2007 campaign with a thrilling 33-27 overtime win over the St Louis Lindyhoppers.
---  Game MVP:  LA RB LaDainian Tomlinson who had 28 carries for 148yards and 2 TDs plus 6 receptions for 57 yards and 1 TD.
---  Turning Point:  With St Louis cruising with a 24-6 lead midway through the 3rd quarter, Jake "My Homie" Delhomme hit Tomlinson on a 4yd strike to bring LA within 11.  On the 1st play from scrimmage following the Tomlinson TD, Willie Parker fumbled the ball which was recovered by Dons OLB Marcus Washington.  4 plays later, Tomlinson scampered 10yds to make the score 24-20.  After a Jeff Reed FG with 4:14 left in the game and St Louis leading 27-20, LA would drive the length of the field, culminating in a 47yd TD pass from Delhomme to Donald Driver, tying the game at 27-27.  LA would get the ball back before the end of regulation, however, Jon Kasey could not connect on a 59yd FG attempt.  Both teams would then come out for the overtime coin-toss and suddenly the video scoreboard went fuzzy and an image started to appear...........Coach Knisely was able to patch into the Dons video system and appear on the video board.  All you could hear him say was "HEADS!".  Sure enough, St Louis won the coin toss.  As the screen started to go fuzzy again, the only thing heard over the loudspeaker was "BALL!" and with that Coach Knisely was gone.  Unfortunately, the Lindyhoppers danced their way 3 and out and punted to LA.  With the ball on their own 43, the Dons would drive 57yds, culminating in a 5yd TD run by game MVP LaDainian Tomlinson to send the Dons sellout crowd home happy.

25 Aug 07 – The LHFA is HERE, Mr. Burton.   Mr. Burton, watching from the Warlords' sidelines, witnesses the two-time defending champs open up defense of the Trophy at home by walloping their arch-rival Detroit Wizards 27-10.
---  Game MVP:   Chicago WR Terry Glenn caught 4 passes for 69 yards and two TDs.
---  Turning Point:  In a tight affair, Chicago held a 10-3 lead mid-2nd.  Chicago punter Sam Koch was able to pin a punt OB inside the Detroit 10.  The Chicago D then forced a 3-and-out, and took over field position on the Detroit side of the field.  The very next play, QB Steve McNair hit Glenn, streaking down the sideline, for a 39-yd TD.  This broke the game open for Chicago, whose D was able to clamp down on Detroit until the very end of the game.
